SCALEWIRELESS networking solutions partner LANCOM launches smart access points for intelligent high-performance WLAN infrastructures.

The German-based specialist in site connectivity and wireless LAN, LANCOM Systems, announced its new L-45x series of 450-Mbps access points. The two 802.11n based access points LANCOM L-451agn Wireless and LANCOM L 452agn dual Wireless are built on a completely new platform, supplementing the manufacturer’s existing WLAN portfolio with high-performance, innovative enterprise-class access points.

Both access points offer a number of innovative features. Spectral scan tool helps to find quickly any WLAN interference sources and display them graphically for effective network troubleshooting.

The LANCOM L-452agn Wireless features “band steering”, an innovation that actively redirects WLAN clients from the often overloaded 2.4-GHz band to the higher-performance 5-GHz frequency band; automatically controlled by the access point, the shift to the 5-GHz frequency band can effectively double the WLAN performance, as there are sufficient channels available in the 5 GHz for channel bundling. Both devices use “STBC / LDPC” to improve WLAN performance at the edge of a cell for those clients supporting this technology. In addition to this, they offer the highest performance – the LANCOM L-451agn Wireless offers more than 230 Mbps and the LANCOM L-452agn dual Wireless more than 430 Mbps of TCP overall throughput on the WLAN.

Equipped with a dual-band radio module, the LANCOM L451agn Wireless operates either in the 2.4 or 5-GHz band and it features an exchangeable external antenna.

The LANCOM L 452agn dual Wireless offers two 802.11abgn dual-band modules and transmits via one internal and five external antennas. It can operate in parallel in the 2.4- and 5-GHz bands and is perfectly suited for high-performance WLAN networks that demand reliable wireless coverage in modern WLAN scenarios. It is ideal for customers with the highest demands for performance, that require convenient hotspot solutions (such as in hotels, restaurants, universities, etc.), or that want to provide internal and external users with WLAN access.

The outstanding feature of these devices is their 100% backwards compatibility with 802.11a/b/g clients. They offer gross data rates of up to 450 Mbps per radio module.

Like all LANCOM access points, the new models operate in stand-alone mode or in combination with a LANCOM WLAN controller. They are also equipped with a comprehensive range of security features, including fully functional 802.11i with WPA2 and AES encryption and 802.1x/EAP (WPA Enterprise) for high-security environments.

Both models have an energy-efficient design allowing them to be supplied with power via PoE (IEEE 802.3af).
